Dear Friend:
I am writing this urgent appeal to you because we desperately need your help today.
For the past 37 years AHI has been a leader of the Greek American community - educating lawmakers, advocating on behalf of the community and serving as a tenacious watchdog on critical issues.
Whether it’s religious freedom for the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Turkey, the illegal occupation of Cyprus or FYROM’s damaging propaganda campaign against Greece, AHI has always worked in the best interests of the United States, Hellenes and Philhellenes alike.
Now, after 37 years, I cannot guarantee we will be able to hold the ground we have fought so hard to gain. I cannot guarantee that AHI – and our message – will continue to resonate on Capitol Hill, in the White House or in the State Department.
With our current funding situation, we are finding it difficult to meet our commitments, let alone increase our efforts.
Some donors have had to cut back and some have had to stop giving altogether. I urgently need you to step up and fill this vacuum.
This year, we cannot rely on 10 people making gifts of $25,000 each. That may have worked in the past, but that’s a lot to ask in this economy. Instead, we all have to pitch in. If all our friends and supporters gave just $37 – a dollar for every year since our founding – we could easily make up for our shortfall and avoid a dire situation.
